I'll probably pick up 30 Rock season one and House M.D. season three on DVD @ Target. $13.98 a piece, not bad at all.
"Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery."

Not exactly Black Friday, but Costco is stocking up heavily on DVD sets. They usually have a coupon for them in early December to make them even better deals. Among them, all three Oceans Eleven movies (the new ones) for $16.99 and all six Rocky movies, Alien Quadrilogy, and the Mel Brooks Collection, all for $39.99. Keep in mind these prices are before any theoretical coupons.

Yeah, I figured that any coupon they send will put that and Rocky at about $30-$35, which is "snatch those fuckers up" time.

we actually ended up doing the sears doorbuster online today because we'll be moving into our house in a week or so and needed some appliances. got a refrigerator, washer and gas dryer for $2400 total including shipping and tax. the it was almost buy washer get dryer free, and the fridge was $1400 down from god knows what due to it being an LG french door with pull-out bottom freezer. we'll be using our security deposit from our current apartment to pay it off (he's got a month and a half's rent).

Amazon (yes, another plug for the good ole Amazon), mirrored almost all of the big box retailers deals, so I ended up getting both of these for $13.99 a piece. No tax, free shipping of course. :yeaha:

By the way, I wouldn't recommend ordering shit from Best Buy online.

I ordered Chinese Democracy on 11/21/08, hoping it might come in the mail before I made the drive for Thanksgiving. (Ha!)

It was immediately processed, but not actually shipped until 11/24/08. They've got some weird-ass setup where it's shipped by UPS part of the way, goes to a mail facility, and goes postal service the rest of the way. (How that's efficient or cost-effective, I have no idea.)

So it was received by UPS on 11/24/08 in New Jersey. On 11/26/08, it arrived in Missouri.

It was picked up by the postal service TODAY in Denver, and is going via US mail the rest of the way. I'm a little confused as to how it got from Missouri to Colorado. If the postal service operates as usual, I should have it by Friday. Two full fucking weeks to receive something they supposedly shipped out immediately, and which I would've had a week ago if they'd just picked one service or the other? Fuck. This totally negates the convenience factor, as I've driven by various Best Buy stores some 30 times since ordering it, and actually been in five, where I saw Chinese Democracy but passed knowing I theoretically had one on the way. Insane.

I thought about my last experience trying to buy something from Best Buy. Instead, I got a 22" monitor from Office Depot. After rebate it will be $130. My wife changed her mind about getting a new printer. She decided that she liked the HP photo printer for $50 (even if it only prints 4x6 prints). The paper for it was buy 1 get 2 free.

hrm... all that sounds rather fishy. was the tracking through UPS.com or through bestbuy.com? if the latter, i'd wager they were actually yanking your crank and sent it from the colorado warehouse straight through USPS...

The first part is through UPS, and the second is through the postal service. Both on their sites. Very weird, eh?

That is why I hate ordering shit I want quickly online.
It took damn near a month to get Watchmen this summer.

Black Friday 2009 looks to be shaping up to be even lamer than 2008. I sort of figured it'd either be freaking awesome, to make up for retail sales being down, or really shitty, because their sales are down and they don't want so many loss leaders. Looks like it's shitty. Guaran-fucking-tee you that the Monday afterward, the news will be making a huge deal about how bad the sales were, and how everyone thought the economy was on the rebound, but obviously it's not, and the stock market will plunge several points, yadda yadda, and no one will think of the simple fact that the only fucking good deals are on toasters, whoop-dee-frigging-doo.

Best Buy's ad is especially shit. I wonder if it's entirely because of their sales being down, or if not having to compete with Circuit City plays into it. They don't even have any cheap DVDs that would make stopping by worthwhile.

The only thing we will be looking for on Black Friday this year will be a wireless printer. My wife decided we need one because she uses the laptop in the living room more than the desktop in our bedroom.

We ventured out right before lunch. First stop was Office Max, no line. Got our printer, some ink, and paper and were out of there. Next stop was K-Mart for a pressure washer. It was packed and they didn't have it. Stopped by Target, no lines. Got a couple DVDs for the kids.
