A gay Mexican kid wearing bright pink. On the one hand, I respect that everyone can be represented. On the other, larger hand, this is just ricockulous. A super-flaming gay stereotype from a small village in Mexico where everyone was accepting of him, because everyone knows Latinos and people from small villages in third-world countries are always the most accepting of gay people, right?

To that end he grew up in an angst-free environment. He was born out of the closet and so he has a very refreshing outlook on life.

And, really, can we get just one more fucking "Pied Piper" gay character? Any of you who read Flash in the 1990s know what I'm talking about--it just came up in conversation one issue that he was gay, and nothing was different from how it'd been before. Even Batwoman, though I understand it became one of the better DC titles of late, was founded on the "And guess what? SHE'S A LESBIAN!!!" angle. Big frickin' deal. Superman is Superman whether he's fucking Lois Lane or Jimmy Olsen.

If it's revealed and then everything about that character revolves around their sexuality it becomes a steaming pile of horseshit. Don't know how Cable and Herc made the list. I don't know if that's just snark or what. But I defer to Jargo as his Gaydar is definitely more spot on than mine.

Of all the characters on the list, I'd have to say Anole is the best written in terms of representing gay. He came out. It wasn't a big deal. It doesn't define his character. He and the other students moved on. Boom. Simple. Done.

Captain America's childhood friend, Arnold Roth was gay. He was written very milquetoast, but Mark Gruenwald was ahead of the curve by having an openly gay character way back in the early 80s. He certainly predated Obsidian and Pied Piper and Northstar. And those characters were pretty much retconned as gay.

I thought Byrne always wanted Northstar to be gay and hinted at it, but Jim Shooter wouldn't have any of it (unless Northstar was trying to abuse Bruce Banner at the Y).

I'm slightly wrong in that Hercules at some point in some universe and timeline has parked his pork dagger in Northstar. Herc is Bi though. Or dead. I lose track.

Cable I have no idea about really but I remember some sort of rumblings between him and Northstar. Maybe Cable is just jealous that Northstar gets more action than he does. Or he's one of those guys who gets his peen sucked by a guy in the john when he's drunk then conveniently forgets when he's sober. And constantly brags about how butch he is and how much pussy he gets. He's not gay but sometimes his dick is.

I imagine many of these Supers swing at some point down to the adrenaline rush of kicking supervillain ass and the fact they're so different to normals it's hard to find anyone capable of dealing with their other selves, their angst and their taste for stretchy figure hugging unitards.

There's whole pages on wikipedia devoted to this subject. There's tons of rugmunchers but I expect that in comics as it's a straight geeks wet dream. but I was surprised at how many buttpluggers there are. beside the whole Batman and Robin joke.
It would be cool if one of these dudes was acknowledged in a movie without much fuss. Just a throwaway line or a significant gaze. No-one but freaks would want to see man on man action on screen but I'm sure a movie going public could handle a nod and recognition that the world of suppers isn't too dissimilar to the regular world in the way of amour. Or have I missed something while watching the recent slew of movies?
