Re: Questions about DC's relaunch
Three more New52 series are ending. Animal Man, Talon, and Batman:Dark Knight.
Wait. What?? DC is canceling a Batman book? What's happening. Is something happening? Are we..Is..Are we being invaded? Is North Korea going to invade? Is an asteroid going to hit the Earth? Is the Earth's core freezing? what the william faulkner is going on around here? Up is down!!! Black is white!!!
DC ending a Bat book is a sign of the end times!! DOOOOOMMED!!!!!
But seriously, of it's orginal 52, how many series are left?
EDIT. I did a quick count. 28 of the original 52 are still going. A large majority of them being the "core" titles like Detective, Action, Batman's many books, Superman, girl, boy, etc, multiple Green Lantern books, Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Justice League, etc.
There are only two or three 'fringe' books from the original launch still hanging on.

Even more, wasn't Talon a Batman spinoff?

Re: Questions about DC's relaunch
Yeah, but it wasn't part of the original launch.
And Court of Owls and CoO related nonsense in general is L A M E and should die in a fire.
-----------
Here's what's left and my own speculations on why it's survived
1. Action. Superman and Batman are the big two(DC says there's a big three, but that's BS. It's a big two and then a smaller 5 or so behind them.) But the big two are like planets that can support many smaller books in their orbit. So planet Supes supports to an extent Action as well as
2. Superman.
3. Superboy.
4. Supergirl. As well as several newer Supes titles like Unchained and Supe/WW.
5. All Star Western. Definitely one of the hangers on. But this is by the team writing the previous Jonah Hex series and that kicked ass.
6. Aquaman. Aquaman was written by Geoff Johns until recently, so he had Johns insulation. Also could be considered part of the smaller 5.
7. Batman. By far the book with the most 'satellites' including
8. Detective
9. Batman and...(formerly and Robin)
10. Batgirl.
11. Batwoman.
12. Batwing.
13. Nightwing.
14. Catwoman. And to an extent
15. Birds of Prey. And perhaps even
16. Red Hood and the Outlaws. Although, I'm slightly impressed a book starring Jason Todd is still around.
17. Flash. One of the smaller 5.
18. Green Arrow. Another smaller 5. Also benefits from having a decent live action show.
19. Green Lantern. Another book that benefited from Geoff Johns writing and thus supported several satellite books such as
20. Green Lantern Corps
21. Green Lantern New Guardians
22. Red Lanterns. Now that Johns has left the main book and because the feature film sucked all the ass in the world, we'll see if the franchise can continue to support five titles.
23. Justice League. After Batman, DCs biggest seller. Also a Johns penned title.
24. Justice League Dark. Has the benefit of JL in the title, but otherwise a fringe book of occult characters.
25. Suicide Squad. Fringe book hanging on.
26. Swamp Thing. Fringe book hanging on.
27. Teen Titans. Tangentially orbiting both Batman and Superman thanks to Tim Drake and Superboy being on the team.
28. Wonder Woman. One of the smaller 5. Also benefits from Azzarello writing it and getting favorable reviews, even from people who hate everything else DC.
There are of course many more DC titles that have started since then. And also many of those have ended also. But those 28 are the ones left from the original 52.

Barwing started as the Batman of Africa or something. I think the main character changed recently.

Re: Questions about DC's relaunch
Yeah, he was part of Batman, Inc's international team of Bat-persons. But now he's Lucius Fox's kid. I foresee Batwing getting canned soon anyway. It usually does shitty sales. They tried the new approach with the new character to see if the title could be saved and it gave the book a small reprieve.Diabolical wrote:Batwing started as the Batman of Africa or something. Re: Questions about DC's relaunch
I agree, even though I read (too) many of the Batman titles.
Batman should have no more than two books, Batman and Detective Comics. And maybe an occasional mini-series or one-shot and possibly a quarterly over-sized anthology featuring various creative teams.
Maybe keep Batman Superman since it showcases DC's big two and could pull new readers over.
Combine Batgirl and Nightwing - It think that could make a fun team up book.
Cancel: Catwoman(doesn't need a book), Dark Knight (and stay cancelled), Harley Quinn (which is just starting), Batman and Robin (which is basically Batman Team Up now), Batwing (because, who gives a fuck?), Redhood and the Outsiders (again, who gives a fuck?).

Re: Questions about DC's relaunch
Six more New52 titles end in April. Nightwing, Suicide Squad, Stormwatch, and Teen Titans from the original 52. And Justice League Mmmurica and Superman Unchained(remember when they pimped the hell out of that book before the movie? Snyder and Lee! Lee and Snyder!! Yeah. It lasted 9 issues and less than a year.)
I'd have to look, but I think Stormwatch is the last of the "Wildstorm" books to die. Masterfully played Jim Lee. Well done indeed.
That leaves only 24 of the original 52 titles around.

A bit surprised about Nightwing. It hasn't been that bad.

Re: Questions about DC's relaunch
So, the death and return of Superman at the hands of Doomsday is being teased. Because it didn't happen. Even though earlier DCnU issues said it did. They just lied. And also the story is so much more powerful if you tell people upfront he's coming back, right?

Do they have any fucking editors? Did they anticipate the problems this was going to cause? It's really simple: one guy who gets paid a lot of money has to earn it by actually reading everything and keeping it straight, and it shouldn't be too tough since there's only two years worth of shit so far. I'm sure there are a lot of geeks out there who would gladly do this shit for them for free.

Re: Questions about DC's relaunch
According to the latest issue of Batman (which takes place six months in the "future") Stephanie Brown is back as Spoiler, Harper Row gets her mask and the codename Bluebird (
) and Carrie Kelly is the new Oracle.
