What have you watched lately?

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

Recently, Willow, The Emperor's New Groove, The Princess and the Frog, and the first two Pirates movies.

All of them hold up.

Tiger King, I'm ashamed to admit. I also finished Parasite. Wow, it escalates quickly. Great show, still liked Once Upon a Time in Hollywood better but it's not necessarily a better movie. They're both better than The Irishman. 1917 up next.

1917. Dear god, what a year for movies. If you had told me last year I'd rank the Scorsese movie worst of the best I'd have scoffed.... yet here we are. 1917 is deeply beautiful, stressful, and emotional. An absolute must see masterpiece. I honestly cried for about 10 minutes straight at one point and I'm struggling to remember the last movie that did that to me.

I watched Parasite on Hulu yesterday. Not convinced that’s the best picture of the year, but I haven’t seen enough of the other noms to make that determination.
You know how I know it’s a Black Comedy? Because the daughter smushed the cake into the guy’s faceas she was being stabbed to death.

It was third for me behind 1917 & Hollywood. The sound of the housekeeper's head hitting the wall at the bottom of the steps though.

Been catching parts of random James Bond movies on TV. Saw most of From Russia With Love, but I've seen it fairly recently. Started watching For Your Eyes Only somewhere in the middle. I can't say if I've ever seen this one before, and if so it was a really long time ago. I didn't know Julian Glover was a Bond villain. Impressive that he was in Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and James Bond.

I’d been buying cheap DVDs that I’d never seen out of the bins at WM for awhile and not getting around to watching them.

Today I watched Deepwater Horizon with Wahlberg. Ironically almost ten years to the day since the actual disaster happened. Didn’t do it on purpose. The movie was okay.

Also Central Intelligence with The Rock and Kevin Hart. A few funny moments but also just okay.

and GoT, which i didn't realize until looking at his IMDB page. looks like about as much geek cred as Zoe Saldana (with Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Trek, Avatar, and Guardians of the Galaxy).
Life is short. STUNT IT!

Den of Thieves with Gerard Butler. It’s Costco Heat.

And then I rewatched Princess Bride for what is probably the 50th time.

Gonna watch Episode IX at Midnite.

Lockout. I love imagining how these movies get pitched/green lit. Some guy:”The President’s daughter is visiting a maximum security prison and a riot breaks out so they have to send in a rogue CIA agent to rescue her...” Studio Exec:”That sounds kinda boring.” The Guy:”You didnt let me finish....IN SPACE!” Studio Exec:”Holy fuck! Yes! Here’s some money!” This movie was pure B-movie cheese and I loved every minute of it. Guy Pearce had a Snake Plisken vibe going and some great tough guy one liners.

Knives Out. So I called the killer out in the first five minutes, and I was both right and wrong. Then I adjusted my theory and was only partially correct again. I don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t seen it, but it’s a decent murder mystery from the director of everybody’s favorite Star Wars film.

Jojo Rabbit. This movie starts out wacky and then just slowly sinks into dreary. It reminded me of a Wes Anderson film mixed with Life Is Beautiful.

Bad Boys for Life. While I enjoyed the familiar banter between Marcus and Mike and the obvious jokes about them both getting old, I gotta call bullshit on the plot twist and fuck that guy after he killed Joey Pants’ and then they tried to make him a sympathetic character at the end setting up some future film franchise or something.

Clue. Bought it on Blu-Ray. Communism was just a Red Herring. 1+1+2+1.

Artemis Fowl on Disney+. I’ve never read the books so I can’t say how faithful/accurate/good the movie is in relation to the books, but from a purely narrative standpoint this movie is....rubbish from beginning to end.
