More catch-up reading.

I bought the first issue of the newest Runaways ongoing and wasn’t impressed with it, so I dropped it. But I found a chunk of issues last month at a convention. Read

2, 6, 7, 9-13, 15, 17, 18, and 20. I am NOT a fan of Anka’s art, but I was thoroughly enjoying Rainbow Rowell’s story, so much so that when I’d finish an issue and I was missing the next one, I was like ‘dammit!’ Even minor continuity stuff she was paying attention to. At one point, I was thinking ‘okay but whatever happened to Klara(a young girl who can make plants grow that was introduced during Joss Whedon’s short stint on the book)?’ And the following issue there was a coda story that was like four pages where they said what happened to Klara. Now I want to go find the rest of the series, I’m enjoying it that much. I’m not even that big a fan of the Runaways, but I’m liking this one.

Agents of SHIELD 2, 8-10. Issue 2 was about Coulson having doomsday protocols for all the heroes and the DOD stealing them, so SHIELD has to get them back. Didn’t Batman do that to the JLA one time? 8-10 were Civil War II tie-ins where the team has misgivings about Carol Danvers facist regime so they get shitcanned from SHIELD and Elektra(???) takes over the team. The book ended after a measly 10 issues.

Spidey 3, 5, 12. A few issues of the teenage Spider-Man book. He fights Lizard, Green Goblin, and the Sinister Six. The book only lasted 12 issues.

And finally the Lenticular Legacy covers of Spectacular Spidey 297 and Miles Spidey 234.

Next up, some Star Wars books.

DC had new comics available today, or maybe it was last week? But people had to figure out how to get them - mail orders from DC's partners basically. May 20 for Diamond sounds good, hopefully some of the stores can survive in the vacuum that long.

Some Star Wars books;

Poe Dameron 3-19, Annuals 1 and 2. Poe is charged with looking for Max VonSydow from the beginning of TFA. Basically, Poe doesn’t think things thru, relies on his bravado, gets into situations, then his droid ex machina BB8 shows up and electrocutes someone or drops a crate on them and Poe is all “Thanks, BB8!” and this happens in every issue, sometimes twice an issue. And that’s what this entire series is.

Darth Maul 2-5. Maul finds out there’s a black market auction for a captured Padawan and he RRRREEAAALLLLYY wants to kill the Padawan so he hires Cad Bane and some other Bounty Hunters to help him kidnap the kidnapped Padawan so he can kill her.

Chewbacca 5. Chewie and some kid uhmm...escape an Imperial Prison Mine or something? I dunno. This book sucked.

Beckett oneshot. The guy from Han Solo and he crew doing jobs before he hooked up with Solo. Meh.

Lando:Double or Nothing 2-5. The Childish Gambino version of the character written as almost a parody of himself. I’m not sure if the writer was doing it deliberately or not.

Tag and Bink Were Here. The only decent book in the pile is a Marvel reprint of a couple old DH series collected in one $7.99 “Legends” reprint. A solid humorous story of two hapless Rebels who just happened do be integral to the entire Saga by being repeatedly in the wrong place at the right time. Or the right place at the wrong time. Funny stuff.

So that’s it. Now I can start in on my “newer” boxes of reading. Which I should’ve been doing in the down time when no new books were coming out. I could’ve made a decent dent in the reading.
I can either go straight alphabetical, or I can jump around and read stuff in the order they came out, or some mix of the two.
I’m inclined to read some of the major events like Infinity Wars, Absolute Carnage, and War of the Realms etc first, then go back and read shorter ongoings that got cancelled already and then catch up with the current ongoings.

We’ll see.

Tag and Bink are great.
They originally had a cameo in Solo when Lord and Miller were directing (maybe as the Stormtroopers that toss Han in Chewie's pit?).

Their story would be good for an animated movie.

I think they were junior officers during Han's court martial. It would've been cool to see them, but the "We'll have you flying in no time"/"Three years later" segue is just beautiful so they made the right call.

I think they're still in the novelization.

So comics resume next Wednesday, but I can’t figure out what’s actually gonna be in stores. Looking at Diamond’s actual release list for next week, it’s a bit anemic. There’s nothing from Marvel on the list at all(Granted, the list might change before next Wednesday), and if I go by my previous buying habits, the only books I’d pick up are IDW’s Marvel Action Avengers 10, and the DCeased sequel issue 3.

But DC has been releasing books thru their “other” distributors for like four weeks now. Are all those books, like Batman 92, Harley Quinn, etc gonna be available? Or will they be staggered at later dates so as not to overwhelm collectors after a two month dry spell?

I can’t find any definitive answers online.

Just guessing but I think unless your LCS ordered some of those DC books from the past 4 weeks to have on hand, you'll need to seek them out through other means.... until they reprint them in the next few months for the people who missed them. Potential for some books to gain in value, though I'm not thrilled by the means that's going to occur.

Went into the LCS today to ask which books were definitely coming out Wednesday. Alas, the list was at his house on a flash drive that he hadn’t been able to print out yet.
So I bought some back issues of Old Man Logan instead. 5, 6, 11, 13, 19, 20, and 24.
So I’m only missing 4, 14-17, and 21.

And I guess Wednesday will be a surprise. Maybe $20, maybe $200.

The first week back was pretty pathetic. 95% of it was DC stuff. I think he had like 10-12 different titles total.

I got
Batman 100 Page Giant Size 4
DCeased Unkillables 3. But not the cover I wanted.
Justice League 44.
Red Hood:Outlaw 45. But not the cover I wanted.

Next week is a bit larger. I looked at his list and I’ve 12-14 books on there. He said Marvel was gonna be shipping books every other week for awhile until they can get ramped back up.

Wasn't really sure where to post this, but it pertains to new & upcoming comics so this is where it's going. Like it or leave it.

According to my LCS owner Marvel & DC have sent out lists of books that are being canceled. The interesting part (to me, anyhow) is that some series WILL CONTINUE VIA DIGITAL ONLY, until such a time as they can be released as collections later. So the "First printing" of some issues on paper is going to be the trade paperback.

Here's the list from the store in case anyone wants to have a look:

Here’s what I am (am not? was?) getting on that list.

Supergirl. Issue 40 came out before the shit started. So I’m “caught up” on that one.
Wasn’t getting any of those other DC ongoings.
I get Marvel’s True Believers, but not DC’s Dollar Comics, so not missing any of those.
I was getting the Giant Size issues, so I’ll “miss out” on Titans 2, Flash 5, and WW84 1.

At Marvel
Ant-Man 3 already came out.
Avengers Wasteland. I only had issue 1 because it was a variant. So no loss there.
Ghost-Spider 8 already came out.
Hawkeye:Freefall 4 already came out.
Marvel’s Spidey:Black Cat 3 already came out. This was the third series of the ‘Gamerverse’ books.
RavenCroft. Only had issue 1, so no biggie.
Revenge of the Cosmic Ghost Rider 4 already came out. But this was the third miniseries in a trilogy, so fuck that.
Scream I wasn’t getting at all.
Star 3 already came out.
Valkyrie I only have up to issue 8? Did I miss an issue? EDIT I did! Motherfucker....goddammit.
2020 Forceworks 2 already came out and 2020 Ironheart never shipped obviously.

I don't have Valkyrie 9 either. I wonder if that's a typo. EDITED - nope, it looks like it came out. Now I get to try & find it. Lovely.
