What have you watched lately?

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

When we were watching it, I said “who manufactures manacles that large? And how did they put them on him?”
Even if he were knocked out, I giggle picturing the logistics of shackling him.

Speaking of which, I watched Skull Island. Or The Great Marvel Reunion With A Monkey, as it should've been called.

There was way the hell too much slow motion, but, aside from that, it was a pretty decent sort of dumbing down of Heart of Darkness

I unintentionally watched Shawshank Redemption this weekend. Whatever show I was watching ended and didn't Shawshank Redemption was on next. I was wrapped up in something and was going to change the channel, but the movie started. Luckily, I didn't have any plans Saturday because I ended up watching the whole thing. I haven't seen it since the 90s, and I only remembered a few parts of it, so it was pretty much like watching it for the first time again.

My favorite line is when Andy asks Red why they call him Red, and he replies "Because I'm Irish."

That same line is in the original story, even though Red was a white guy.

Same joke, different sarcastic intent.

The Courier. I knew this was a shitty movie after the first ten minutes, but I kept watching because it was fun watching Academy Award winner Gary Oldman debase himself for money by chewing scenery in it.

Army of the Dead. Passable, predictable zombie movie. I didn’t know the story about the pilot character until after the movie, so they did a good job there. I wasn’t looking for discrepancies, or I might’ve picked up on it, but at no point was I like, ‘wait somethings funny here’. Honestly i didn’t care about any of the characters. In fact, the opening credits montage was a more compelling story than the actual movie.

Your Highness. Seeing Natalie Portman’s ass in a thong is not worth sitting thru the rest of this unfunny movie. Danny McBride has never been funny to me. It was also weird for me to see that much effort put into costumes, effects, production, etc only to have it ruined by the fact they weren’t using a script and were just saying whatever dick joke popped into their heads and using that take for the movie.

Under Siege. Holy shit, this movie is almost 30 years old?? Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey are fun villains. Erika Eleniak has some nice boobies.

I like Your Highness.
It's dumb, sure, but it's a mindless, fun, stoner dumb.

And Portman's thonged ass is so worth it.

Fuck all y'all hoes for not forcing me to watch The Fast and the Furious before today.

It's absurd. It's ridiculous. It completely stretches credulity in every way.

And it's fucking glorious. Only, what, nine more to go now, counting Hobbes & Shaw, right?

I didn’t bother buying the first three(although I’ve seen the first one several times) but I got 4 thru 7 on BluRay just because the physics become so ridiculous. Guilty fun.
The runway in the climax of 6 or 7 or whichever one is longer than the state of Rhode Island.

Oh my god, Beal - you were talking about the FIRST Fast & Furious, one of the worst movies of all time?
The movie where master criminals are stealing DVD players?
The movie that just stops, rather than having an actual conclusion?
The movie where a quarter mile car race takes three minutes?

Even though they're essential to the later films, fuck those first three movies.

Worst? I wouldn't say that. Definitely one of the most mindless.

That final heist supposedly takes place on the 86 outside Coachella. (Pretty sure there's no such highway.) But it was filmed on the main road from the west into a shit town called Hemet. I know this because I worked in Hemet when it was being filmed, and lived to the west, and had to leave extra early every day for almost a damned month so I could go the long way around.

But they only used a small stretch of what was blocked off, because buildings (including a then almost brand new high school) are visible on the rest of the road. So that entire fucking heist takes place over maybe a quarter of a mile.

I was watching with my son and pointed out they'd passed the same hill about seven times. I have to wonder what sort of sweetheart deal they got; there are so many roads out here that look similar, but actually have no signs of civilization for several miles.

that's the key - they needed it to look like there was no civilization, but couldn't film on the cracked/pitted/broken roads of ACTUAL no civilization.
Life is short. STUNT IT!

A studio could afford to just repave whatever stretch of highway they needed out in the middle of nowhere. They just would’ve had to do it early in preproduction so it would be ready when they needed to film it.
