What have you watched lately?

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

I like that dude - End of Watch was a pretty solid cop movie - I don't know why he didn't make me laugh as much this time.

I watched Edge of Tomorrow again on the boat TV's. I still like this movie for some reason. It's one that I can sit and watch any time that it's on and still enjoy it. That's a rare feat for a movie with me of late.

Southpaw Decent performance by Gyllenhaal in a routine boxing movie.

Trainwreck Overhyped comedy with an unlikable fugly bitch in the lead role who sounds like she's had a mild stroke because she slurs all her words. The stuff with Lebron was funny. The two scenes with John Cena were fucking hilarious.

Mr Holmes A BBC film about an aging Sherlock dealing with senility and memory loss. Sir Ian McKellan is always wonderful, but it was rather dull. And kind of maudlin.

Man from UNCLE Decent spy flick that starts out smart and fun but doesn't really escalate from there. Cavill is wonderful as a smarmy charming Solo. The score/soundtrack is also fantastic.

Straight Outta Compton Pretty good biopic with an exceptional young cast.

The Gift Surprisingly good psychological thriller from Joel "Uncle Owen" Edgerton.

The Gift looks scary as fuck - and if what's inside that box got any inspiration from the end of Se7en, I have no interest in terrifying myself watching it. Fuck that shit.

It's more of a Hitchcockian type thriller. There's a couple jumpscares in the movie, but its more about the characters. It's not gory or anything.
The "gift" at the end is more creepy and twisted than it is scary or bloody. I recommend it.

The only reason I watched it is because I was looking at how dismal FF was on RottenTomatoes and The Gift was at 98% at that point. I was like 'holy shit, 98%??!' And then heard a couple positive word of mouth reviews. That was good enough for me to check it out.

Well, it wasn't a reboot or remake and it was a semi-original idea so it flopped. I love how people always bitch for more originality in Hollywood but when a good original movie comes out it flops.

Minions - Not as strong as the Despicable Me flicks, but entertaining enough.

Arrow Season 3 - They basically do the Batman/Ra's Al Ghul story with Arrow instead and introduce a bunch of new superheroes.

The Flash Season 1 - Spin off from Arrow. A lot of fun, great effects. And Grodd.

X-Men: Days of Future Past - The Rogue Cut - Not just Rogue stuff added/swapped for Kitty. There is some other alternate scenes.

Maggie - Arnold Schwarzenegger's zombie drama. Nothing great, but worth a watch.

Fant4stic - Posted my thoughts elsewhere.

Straight Outta Compton - I really liked it. Phenomenal casting for the main cast (except for the minor role of Snoop - he sounded like Snoop, but looked nothing like him). I didn't realize it was 2.5 hours long.

Yeah, but that was 90 minutes of flat jokes wrapped up in a nonsensical plot.

Demetri Martin Live (At The Time) - New Netflix special. Funny shit.

Saturday Night Live: The Best of Chris Farley - There are some classics and a few head scratchers.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. - Fun, spy flick. Shame it bombed.

Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back - Time has not been kind to this one. There's still some good stuff, but a lot of jokes fall flat.

Chronicle - To help wash Fant4stic out of the brain.

Cop Out - Tracey Morgan is great, but easily Kevin Smith's worst.

Fury - Finally watched this one. Fucking great.

American Ultra - The Stoned Identity. Can't decide if it wanted to be an action flick or stoner comedy.

Wet Hot American Summer - The series. Hilariously stupid, just like the movie.

Birdman - Another one I'm embarrassed to say I finally just watched. Great flick, but I think it was a bit over-hyped.

Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World - The Steve Carrell end of the world rom-com. Not bad. Keira Knightly...yum.

Ghostbusters: Still a good movie, but...

1. Since when does the EPA have that much power and move that fast to do anything?
2. What is Venkman doing carrying 300cc's of anything on a date?
3. It is dark out when Venkman drugs Dana. At the same time, Ray and Winston are driving around (still at night). Venkman talks to Egon on the phone, it is still night. By the time Venkman, Ray, and Winston "immediately" get back the the Ghostbusters' building, it is morning.
4. It is minor, but heading into the final battle, chunks of the building fall. You can tell they are foam because they bounce off of the barriers and people.

(a couple of these are from some comedian I heard. can't remember the guy's name)

The Iron Giant - Almost embarrassed to admit this, but I think this was the first time I've seen the movie from start to finish. I'm pretty sure I've seen all of it in bits and pieces over the years. Something struck me recently and I wanted to see it, so I grabbed it at Target for $5.00. Naturally, it's a great flick.

Life After Beth - Via Amazon Prime. Zombie comedy with Aubrey Plaza and Dane Dehaan. Watchable, but not as funny as it looked.

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation - Ghost Protocol was better, but still very entertaining and great action scenes.

Monster Squad - Recently added to Netflix. This flick has not aged well. It's funny how much swearing they could get away with in a kid's movie back in the 80's. This flick is prime for a sequel (almost 30 years later) or a remake. It could be cool to do a 8-10 episode mini-series event instead of a movie remake.
