Re: star wars
You're only counting carded figures. And regardless of whether there's a 2-year gap, they've released about as many fricking Vaders and Anakins as they can.
And, yes, the people who are insane enough to want Jocasta Nu (who I'd buy if they made her, but am not clamoring for her) would pay double normal retail to get her through hasbrotoyshop.com. Make it so you have to order her in advance and get numbers for the production run.
But things that I find mildly annoying are little details, like Bossk vs Evazan. Everyone's been literally begging for Evazan for 13 years, since that first Goof Troop reject figure. But everyone's liked each Bossk, regardless of how much better the next one turns out to be. Or Kit Fisto. How many Kits have we had? And, yet, the one people ask for repeatedly, a simple grinning version, has yet to be made.

Re: star wars
Glad those 3 are coming out. If Hammerhead comes out, I'd probably get him too since the last one I bought came with the section of bar. For some reason, Bom Vimdin stood out more in the movie than Leesub Sirln to me. When they first showed images of her, I had to think about it before I placed her in the Cantina. Whereas I'd recognize Bom from the scene without even thinking about it.Senor JabbaJohnL wrote:Momaw Nadon and the other cantina figures they update are probably done in part to evoke the nostalgia from the original line. Dr. Evazan wasn't in that line, so there you go. But Evazan, Ponda Baba, and Bom Vimdin are coming next year. (I know it doesn't seem like it, but Bom Vimdin is actually less visible in the cantina than Leesub Sirln.) It's a fine line between wanting to space out releases through the years so fans are still left wanting more, and front-loading everything so there's nothing but boring shit left after all our wants are fulfilled.
Smaller? Crap. A little late in the game to rescale him. They've released an army of astromechs up to this point, and now one is going to be smaller than the rest?anarky wrote:I'm almost in agreement with you. I'd like a new ESB removable-limbs C-3PO based on the new sculpt, and possibly a revisit of the TPM C-3PO. Padme still needs quite a few outfits, and Leia needs some updates.
I am a long, long way from the days when I would buy anything Vader.
One thing that makes me wonder: apparently, the newest R2-D2 mold (coming soon in the ROTJ wave) is smaller than existing Artoos, because the figure was off-scale. Watching ROTJ this weekend, Wicket is about half the size of Artoo. So how the fuck small is Wicket going to be for $8?
I wanted to check on the height comparison between Wicket and R2. Wicket is .8 meters. R2-D2 is .96 meters.

This was probably covered somewhere but fuck off.
Is it just me or is the Vintage 3PO the dumbest fucking thing ever? They do the fucking shiny dome shit on R2 but then do a stupid dull paint job on 3PO? He fucking looks like he's a Droids version.

Re: star wars
The tradeoff there is that he actually has a wide range of articulation. I'm cool with it.

Agreed. The figure itself looks pretty good, but that paint job is what has kept me from buying it.Slicker wrote:This was probably covered somewhere but fuck off.

I bet most people recognize him from this picture:Ran wrote:Glad those 3 are coming out. If Hammerhead comes out, I'd probably get him too since the last one I bought came with the section of bar. But, in the actual film, Bom is blurry in the background of the opening shot where Hem Dazon sticks his head up. That's all we ever see of him, but for some reason people act like he's in the film as much as Greedo.
With C-3PO, as has been said, they wanted to do one with more articulation, but what you also get is an unprecedented level of detail. This thing makes me shit my pants when I look at it, it's so awesome. Besides, he's not as consistently shiny in the films as they usually make the figures, and there are already tons of shiny C-3POs, so it's not that big a deal.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Re: star wars
Having seen Wave 2, there's one thing that makes no sense to me.
Most of the figures show the vintage carded figure on the back. This wasn't the case with some, like Echo Base Han or Dak, and they say "First carded figure release" or something.
However, with the prequel wave, things get a bit goofy.
The Sandtrooper shows the 1997 (?) carded Sandtrooper. The ROTS figures show their 2005 (later for Cody and maybe someone else) cards. But Darth Sidious shows the vintage card and says, "First vintage card release." This despite there being multiple Sidious figures, and nothing in the name identifying him as scene-specific (though he is), and his scene isn't markedly different from his other appearances. It actually confused me at first, since I thought they were showing a ROTJ Emperor card until I looked more closely.
So why show those ugly-ass cards for everyone else and say that Sidious is a "first vintage card"?
Anyway, like I said, I saw Wave 2 at WM last night. Thought about getting Grievous until I heard something flopping in the bubble and realized it was a hand. I'm not sure if it was broken, but didn't want to chance it. The MagnaGuard looks cool, but I didn't feel like just getting that one.
Saw a few foil cards and thought, "I guess people are doing that crap again."

Re: star wars
Thanks to a super-mini-lunchtime MabuCon Kitchener Edition (now 100% Kosher) meeting with JJreason I now have the "vintage" Dengar and I gotta say it is pretty much hilarious how truly awesome the figure is- I haven't even opened him yet, just admiring him carded and waiting til the time is right. My fave detail so far is that stupid oversized sushi mat on his backpack. I like to imagine him hunting amanamen and then making sushi in the field, using that hub-cap-lookin thing on his backpack to prepare the rice he no doubt has stashed somewhere in his kit.
So I guess what I am saying is, despite being coarse and disgusting and looking like he has feces all over his hands, the FU Dengar is now also a master sushi chef.

Re: star wars
Well, this is the first time they've made senate duel Sidious, which is a unique costume they've never done before (and the final ROTS outfit for Palpatine). Everyone else, they've done before in that outfit or version (which is why the new Anakin has a picture of the Sith eyes version from 2005). They did the same thing in wave 1 for Han and Dack.anarky wrote:Having seen Wave 2, there's one thing that makes no sense to me.

That said, I'm not a huge fan yet of showing carded images from just five years ago. With the vintage line, it's a blast of nostalgia. With the ROTS cards, it's somewhere between "Oh yeah, I already have a similar figure" and "Wow, I forgot how shitty those ROTS cards were." I understand them wanting to "celebrate" the entire line and give everything its due, but it looks more than a little goofy.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Re: star wars
I can understand why they'd say a figure called Darth Sidious: Senate Duel would be a "first issue vintage card." But just listing him as "Darth Sidious" without a subtitle of any sort seems to not entirely jive with what they're doing with the other ROTS figures. Does that make sense? To me, he needs either a subtitle under the name, or a picture of an ROTS (or even TPM) card on the back to be consistent.
Otherwise, they could just as easily argue this is the first dedicated General Grievous: Utapau or Commander Cody: Belt on the Right Way figure issue on a vintage card.

Fuck vintage cards. I want vintage style figures, like Anakin, Padme, Grievous looking like they were made in 1983.

As I said, this is the first time they've ever made this costume for Sidious. They've done the same costume or version for every other character in the wave, hence the images of the older figures. It's not just that this is an upgrade with more articulation, or something - they've simply never done this outfit before.
On the Han figure, there was no earlier representation of this outfit, so they didn't put any older figures on there. They could have put any random Han figure on there, as you're saying they should have done for Sidious, but that wouldn't have been accurate, either.
I agree they should have perhaps put a subtitle under his name. I'd like to see that more, actually, as it was frequently done in the actual vintage line.
Seriously? Most people want better, improved, definitive versions of those figures. I think you're the only person I've ever seen to say that.diabolical wrote:Fuck vintage cards. I want vintage style figures, like Anakin, Padme, Grievous looking like they were made in 1983.

Re: star wars
I didn't say they'd made this costume before for Sidious; I have most of the Sidiouses (Sidiii?) and know he's not been made in this outfit. (Even if I didn't, the amount of requests for this version over the past five years would be enough to clue me in.) It's just that, in terms of the packaging only, he needs a subtitle for consistency's sake. To someone who's not been paying attention, it seems like they're claiming this is the first Sidious figure, or at least the first carded one, the way the back card design is.
Since the figure wasn't released before, and showing another Darth Sidious figure wouldn't be accurate, adding ": Senate Duel" would be the only solution to fix it without overhauling the whole line. I'll just consider it a minor oversight.
Of course, showing only the vintage cards for all the prequel figures would be the best solution. I think we all agree that some cards, especially the ROTS and AOTC ones, look like ass.
I dunno if DB was joking, but that actually would be a pretty clever idea. It'd have to be a set, sold as an exclusive to an online retail or at a convention. I don't think you could get away with more than four or five characters per movie. If nothing else, it could be a cool convention exclusive with enough appeal to sell to geeks without pissing off those who missed out.
Course, I think they should just make fucking Ewok movies, Ewoks cartoons, Droids cartoons, and Holiday Special BattlePacks and sell them as convention exclusives.
