And yet, it's okay to kill off Lady Jaye.
What the fuck? Kill the good character, leave the stupid stereotype?
Wait, I was told I'm not supposed to bag on Duke.

That was elsewhere.
Duke is a poster-boy douche. I can't believe Scarlett had the hots for him on the cartoon. Just cause a guy has a voice actor...

My thoughts.
Batman. This was the last book I opened up yesterday and when I saw what was inside I was a little trepidatious about reading it. But I recommend YOU ALL BUY THIS BOOK and give it a good reading. Even if you aren't a comic book reader. And this style is not indicative of comic book these days, but it IS emblematic of what they are capable of. I will say no more than that, but I may even go so far as to start a new topic to discuss what I think, will go down as a classic. People will constantly refer to "The Clown at Midnight" when referring to the best comic book stories ever.
JSA. Continuing a great story arc. First arcs in books are always better. Why is that? The final two page Splash of the new team was great.
Astonishing X-Men. "Not Stench?" ha ha. Why can't all the X-Books have this kind of banter? Writing banter has become a lost art in comics. It's all tough guy bullshit posturing nowadays.
Exiles. (sigh) Goddamn you Chris Claremont. Goddamn you.
Ghost Rider. Wow. Bored. A little dissapointed. A great premise for the new book is being kind of squandered here. Still digging Texiera and Salteres art though.
New X-Men. Why can't these guys write one of the main books? Their banter technique is better than the downers writing X-Men and Uncanny. Yeah, I know I rave on and on about Brubaker on Uncanny, but his story arc is still uber serious.
Sensational Spidey. The New Clone Saga begins. You read that right. *RASPBERRY NOISE* Also, how fucking frustrating is it that all the Spidey books EXCEPT Amazing are in black already and we haven't even found out why he's so distraught he has to climb back into the Black. In Sensational, Friendly and New Avengers, he's been awfully chipper for someone who's family has supposedly been assassinated.
Thunderbolts. This book is well written and I love Deodato's art, but the whole concept is really unsettling, having the worst villains in the Marvel U acting like heroes. Before the T-Bolts were about reformed villains, but these guys are just being enticed and bribed. It's hard to know who to root for.
Wolverine: Origins. So MULLET/MOHAWK runs around and does stuff and Wolverine escapes from SHIELD, but i can't recall anything that happened because I was distracted by MULLET/MOHAWK's fucking stupid hair. Seriosuly, who okayed this? Joe? Are you that out of touch?
Finally, on a whim, I bought Punisher Presents: Barracuda. "Shut the fuck up, before I beat you to death with my balls." And the whole scene with the Sheriff was GREAT. "Did the south rise again?" "Fuck you."

The Punisher Presents: Barracuda #1 - Pretty cool to see the character back (even though I don;t understand how he survived a point blank shotgun blast to the chest). I love the way Italian mob boss looks like Christopher Walken - I read his dialogue with Walken's voice in my head.
Wolverine Origins #11 - The issue reads really damn fast. And aside from the lame look of Logan's son, I'm curious to see where the story is going.
Astonishing X-Men #20 - Another comic that reads too damn fast. I'm guessing this and Wolverine Origins would be much better when read as a collected TPB. Still, props to Whedon for not cramming the whole story into 3 or 4 issues like many other writers would. Oh, and the issue is pretty good.
Star Wars: Legacy #8 - 8 issues and 2 of 'em are fill-in stories? Fuck...
Why the hell do we need to see the events of issue #1 from anotehr angle? YOU SHOULD HAVE PUT IT ALL IN THE FIRST DAMN ISSUE!!!
Star Wars is just pissing me off these days...

Wolverine Origins 11
Astro City Dark Ages Vol 2 #2
Avengers 27
Uncanny whatever
I left the Spidey stuff there because I can't read it yet anyhow (and am broke this pay period). The Batman 663 was sold out, but the guy is getting it back in next week and is saving me a copy. Is it a big mostly prose issue?

Mostly prose with some drawings interspersed. A turn off for conventional comic readers, but it's just amazing.

SPOILERS ahoy for the reviews!
Civil War #7 - The trainwreck goes out with a whimper. The art and writing are easily his worst of the series.
*Instead of teleporting everyone to oh, let's say the middle of a farmfield in Nebraska, Cloak sends them to middle of New fucking York, endangering thousands of people. Real smart move there. Ashat.
*Namor and his lackey's joins the fight with no explaination given. Wasn't he like really oppossed to this nonsense a few issues ago?
* Thing returns...with no explaination given, besides a "Do you think I'd really sit this out in France?" answer. How the hell did he get back so fast?
* Punisher shows up after the battle and picks up Cap's mask? Why?
Fuck you Marvel. This could have been really cool, but you bitches fucked everything up for the next few years (at least).
Punisher War Journal #4 - Stilt-Man's funeral, attended by almost all D-list villians. And Frank kills of of them, even Rhino and Chameleon? Aren't they near the top of the B-listers? The Doombot was pretty funny though. Reminded me of a certain "dirtiest rest-stop bathroom on the information superhighway..."
Batman #663 - Haven't read it yet, but I hear it's pretty good

.
I flipped through Amazing Spier-man and saw the last page. Probably should have picked it up. Maybe next week.

haven't read it yet, but i read that post... not surprising in the least, though, so you didn't spoil anything.
and namor probably showed up because of the weirdness that happened to a group of atlantean "terrorists" in civil war: frontline. yet another example of the problems inherent in the main title: dependency on the tie-ins...

At least it's over with, and we can go back to our regularly scheduled bitching.
When's the next big megaevent start, next week or the week after?

The original idea was to kill Cap, but the delays on this book are now being attributed to EIC Quesada pussying out and them having to redo the whole last half of the book. Either way would've sucked. Just like all of Civil War. It sucked from beginning to end.

What sucks about EVERYTHING like this is that they ALWAYS back out of any real, major changes - right down to Peter's coming out. It's ALWAYS like the big thing never even happened (well, except for that little "no more mutants" comment by the Scarlet Bitch last summer - that tidied things up a little).
It's too bad the last issue stinks (from what I've read - which is what's here. I don't have my copy yet), I was really hoping for at least one thing to happen where I could say "holy shit!" - and it doesn't sound like it will.

I believe it's World War Hulk.
