Maybe it seems a little different if you're actually invested in the books, but it really seems like the movie universe is what Ultimate should've been, and the actual 616 comics are just them saying, "What completely off-the-wall stunt can we pull for six months until we change everything up again?"

There's a little bit to it though. Peter and Logan have become unlikely friends over the past decade since New Avengers started. It's never felt stunt-y. So, Logan asking Pete for this doesn't seem wrong.

Wolverine dying is the stunt. But the fallout is where the interesting stories get told.

I'm considering putting all of my Spider-Man books newer than the end of volume 1 up for sale. I never read much of the Byrne relaunch series, but did read for a few years there with JMS and well into Dan Slott. It's just very far removed from what Spider-Man's life is like in my mind.

The counterpoint to that would be Uncanny X-Men - it's come full circle and is once again near the top of my "to read" pile for the last 3 months - and it wasn't that long ago I was done with X-Men for good. Not 100 percent on selling the Spidey just yet.

Ha, no I didn't see that. I kind of assumed something like that was too good to be true, but it was still funny.
I think someone was trying to one-up the classic Joker pulling a boner panels.

Now that I know it's bullshit, if you you close you can see some obvious signs of photoshop in the "dick" area. And the spacing seems off.

It's Hickman, so it's going to be worth following if the past is any indication. That being said, I'm always a bit more than skeptical when it comes to "everything old is new again" in popular media.

Any idea what's up with Marvel teasing the return of a bunch of past events like Civil War, Planet Hulk, Secret Wars, Days (/Years) of Future Past, Armor Wars, etc.?

I concur. This is all part of Hickman's Secret Wars Event next summer.
It's basically the 616 vs What If..? as Marvel weeds down its multiverse.
