Black Panther finally cracked the $700M barrier this weekend. Becoming the third film ever to do so, after TFA and Avatar.

A lot of theaters put it back into circulation a few weeks ago, which helped. The way the revenue split between theater chains and studios work, the movie was basically pure profit for the theaters. One ticket sold to a movie that’s been out for that long (six months!) is worth 20-50 times what the theater is getting from tickets sold opening weekend for other films.

James Gunn is still silent on the issue since his firing. His last post on IG and FB were July 17/18.
He's usually pretty active, but even considering his statement of acceptance of Disney's decision, I almost expected him to post a thank you for the support. The optimist in me wonders if his silence could mean he's talking to Disney about coming back.

And Bautista is still pissed. Via twitter:
I will do what Im legally obligated to do but @Guardians without @JamesGunn is not what I signed up for. GOTG w/o @JamesGunn just isn’t GOTG. Its also pretty nauseating to work for someone who’d empower a smear campaign by fascists #cybernazis . That’s just how I feel

I'm glad the cast spoke out. Bautista is obviously very passionate about this & it's refreshing - he's willing to speak out & risk getting left behind by the golden goose as a result. Good for him.

What's his other option - stand very still and be invisible?

I do appreciate him really speaking out, basically saying "I'm only doing this movie for these a-holes because I have to contractually."
It's too bad he's not RDJ and be able to throw his weight around.

I was going to find a video of Bautista body slamming people or something. Instead, I found this video that seemed more appropriate.

Marvel is trying to talk Disney into bringing Gunn back.

And Alan Horn is a dick.
He met with Gunn and is refusing to hire him back.

I'm hoping Bautista continues to stand up for him and sticks to his demand to be let out of his contract if Gunn isn't rehired.
I would love for the rest of the cast to do the same, but I have a feeling most of them, especially Chris Pratt, won't out of fear of hurting their career.s

GotG 3 has been placed on indefinite hold.
Disney seems to know they fucked up and would rather stp a movie rather than admit it.

Puts a damper on their Marvel Cosmic movie plans - which suits me fine. Fuck them, they don't need any more billions doing bullshit like this.

The Captain Marvel trailer has arrived.

First impression, I'm glad that it appears the origin is revealed gradually throughout, rather than spending 90 minutes finally getting to the hero.

Nick Fury said something in The Avengers about not knowing about alien threats until Thor showed up...but CM takes place in the 1990s.

Maybe the Nick Fury we know has been a Skrull this whole time.

Avengers 5: Secret Invasion....

Loki and Scarlet Witch are getting TV shows on Disney’s new streaming service next year.
The 6-8 episode series will be produced by Marvel Studios directly under the supervision of Kevin Fiege.
Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen are expected to reprise their roles for the two series.

I've heard a lot of people say Venom is funny at times, but they aren't sure if it was intended to be funny.

And that it feels like a pre-MCU Marvel movie.

I went into Venom with zero expectations.

I walked out entertained. It’s not a great movie, but it was a decent movie. It’s better than the trailer made it out to be. But, to be fair, they left like 98% of the actual Venom footage out of the trailers and there were some pretty fun fight scenes.

It’s sucks it’s not part of the MCU, even though technically there’s nothing to contradict it being in there. Especially if Sony is serious about expanding their “Spidey-Verse” with Black Cat, Silver Sable, Sinister Six, etc. Maybe give Feige and Marvel Studios some kind of seal of approval control about quality of films not directly under their purview so we can have a bigger MCU.

It’s pretty obvious the direction they want to go for the sequel, considering they cast Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kassady and gave him eighth billing in the credits even though hes only in the post credits stinger with like a minute of screen time.

I thought Venom’s reason for “saving the world” was pretty weak.

Overall, worth a matinee viewing.
