I don't know. I found it pretty funny, and even back then realized that they were creating one of every stereotypical (?) kid from your average high school and throwing them in the mix. The acting itself was pretty good & the characters pretty realistic. Judd Nelson looked too old, but other than that I found it quite believable - and pretty funny to boot.

I watched this awhile ago and thought it was ok. I watched it Saturday night and it was pretty damn funny. Ving Rhames playing a fag was funny, especially singing in the shower

I'm going to agree with JJ's review. In school, I was somewhere between the Emlio Estevez jock character and the geek.

I fucking hate the Breakfast Club with a passion. Yes and I hate Ferris Buellers Day off also.

I found myself laughing at The Breakfast Club, rather than with it, especially at Emilio's "dancing."


And Ferris Beuller is extremely overrated.
Cameron's Wings jersey pisses me off - the logo is off center and far too high.

I never understood why a dude living in Chicago would wear a Wings jersey.

That's nowhere near as outrageous as the scene at the parade where Cameron was holding Ferris's girlfriend's hand. Holding hands with your best friend's girl? You just don't do that.

I, for the first time ever, watched Kentucky Fried Movie last weekend. At least part of it. I got about an hour in and fell asleep during the Asian parody. "...And the Capital of Nebraska is LINCOLN." That was pretty funny for some reason. The rest was eh. I can see it being funny back in 1978 or whatever, but now its fairly limp.

I also changed channels late last night and hit the middle of Commando. I HAD to finish watching it, it was so awefulsome. That movie was so great when I was ten years old and now its cringeworthy. It's like they pre-emptively parodied action movies.

oh, man... commando is freakin' RIPE for the pickin' in terms of running commentary, a la MST3K. my friends and i had a FIELD DAY with that one. since the movie opens upon him cutting down and carrying a tree trunk towards his log cabin (ostensibly built that way one tree at a time...) everything in the movie was "made of logs" from that point on.

Diary of a Mad Black Woman (edited for basic cable, and I missed about 10 minutes total for various reasons)

A lot better than I was expecting. This one had a lot of great character development, especially for a fairly lightweight movie. It got a bit preachy at the end, but had a mixture of some surprisingly captivating drama and laugh-out-loud funny moments. Tyler Perry as Madea was worth watching for alone. I wouldn't say it's a masterpiece, but worth checking out, and I wouldn't mind seeing some of his other work.

He also fills the role of Double G's Mom quite well.

Watched High Fidelity again last night.

This past weekend I saw Tropic Thunder and Team America: World Police, both of which were fucking hilarious.

DirecTV has free Cinemax this weekend. I watched The Replacements. I'm not a big Keanu Reeves fan, but it was a decent movie (not counting the staged acrobatic hits during the game play scenes).

The bonus was that after it was over, there was some soft core porn.

Mrs A wanted to watch this. It is a solid average romantic drama, and a huge wasted opportunity. The premise is quite solid, and the acting from Zeta-Jones and Eckhart is excellent, and even they are upstaged by the little girl. Unfortunately, there are several points that require way too much suspension of disbelief for this sort of film, the script rambles at times, and there seem to be a few gaps and holes. Too bad. This could have been a real pleasant surprise.

The Little Rascals

I always swore I would never watch this, and Mrs A pulled it up on OnDemand to show to A Jr last night. I can't lie and say it has the bite of the original series (no way in fucking hell could they get away with shit like putting babies in cages, or, well, any bit from the original that involved Buckwheat or Stymie), but it kept the heart and feel of the classic version. The only real change was that Buckwheat is younger, relative to Spanky and Alfalfa, than I remember him being, though that seems like it was changed so he could still say "O-tay" and have a reason for doing it (other than being a racial stereotype). It's definitely a kids' movie, but surprisingly solid for what it is. It's not in the same league as Speed Racer, but works for the same reasons SR did--the filmmakers obviously approached it with a respect for the original version and no desire to fuck with perfection.

The best part, IMHO--though the movie overall has a sort of timeless feel (think Batman: The Animated Series, where different aspects of the same show seem to be in the modern day and the Depression era at the same time), there's a Judas Priest reference that comes out of left field and had me rolling.
