Stupid.

Lando has no fuck buddies. All women are his playthings.

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero [can I stop using the subtitle since it seems all the other Joe titles are dead?] Volume 12: The Death of Snake Eyes

Um.

Uh.

Yeah, this isn't "holy shit, I'm dropping this book!" levels of bad, but this is easily one of the worst, if not the worst, Joe stories set in this universe. I honestly think Hama has moved on from "I love these characters and am going to tell a kickass story with them" to "You wanna pay me to write stories about action figures? Sure, why not? Sucker."

There are so many "wait, what the fuck is going on?" moments, I couldn't list them all. I don't mean that the narrative isn't clear. It's just chock full of "where the fuck did that come from"?

The Red Shadows showed up once as a super-mysterious organization that had a level of tech far beyond Joe or Cobra, then vanished. And now return as, apparently, Cobra Commander's R&D team? And, with no background whatsoever given, they're building a fucking Transformer (but not called that) in an underground base that's almost a carbon copy of The Pit, which coincidentally is completed and discovered at the exact time the Joes activate their Transformer. But now both Transformers are destroyed, so it's okay.

YOU CAN'T FUCKING INTRODUCE THE IDEA THAT BOTH SIDES HAVE REVERSED ENGINEERED ALIEN ROBOTS AND THEN DROP IT. THAT'S JUST TOO FUCKING HUGE!

How are there even Transformer corpses? I don't want to be a continuity cop, but do we have a completely new TF universe, where the original series went the same way, complete with the Underbase and Ark casualties practically littering the Earth, but everything turned out happy and jolly and neither G2 nor ReGeneration One happened? Christfarts, that series was already a continuity headache without another splinter timeline.

Throwdown is an Arashikage ninja, and no one knew it, and now no one will know how since he can't talk. When the fuck did he fit that training in?

And the titular event. Holy shit. He managed to kill off THE main character, and have it seem cold and pointless when compared to several minor characters he's killed off who were created to die and had less than five pages apiece. It was just dumb. The funeral was decent enough, but there's been better stuff along those same lines in this very title.

Don't get me fucking started on Snake Eyes 2. "Well, Cobra's going to think we're weak if ONE GUY is dead." Yes, he was a badass. Yes, Cobra Commander has a hard-on for killing him. Snake Eyes isn't a superhero, and the reason other Joe continuities have failed is that he's made to be one. Good thing Sean burned his face and lost his voice, and happens to be an Arashikage ninja, though!

(Aside: Hama swears he's never read the Devil's Due title, despite working on some of its spinoffs, and has no idea who Kamakura is. Yeah, calling bigtime bullshit here.)

And Snake Eyes is apparently buried as Sean Collins, with Cobra hacking into every computer they can to find out who this mysterious uber-badass is. And they recognize Wade as a former Fred-series CG. Shouldn't the logical next step be, "Looks like the funeral is for a guy named Collins. So that's definitely Wade. But on the plus side, that mysterious new Joe is fucking dead!"?

And calling it now: Based only on the "security was rather lax" comment, the Collins family didn't get blowed up.

I thought the Collins making it into some hidden bunker Wade had prepared seemed sorta obvious. Even though they haven't shown up again yet, when they do (not IF) I will be zero surprised.

The rest of it...yeah.

It's been a couple (few maybe) weeks. Over $80 for this "entertainment":

DD18
Gaiman Miracleman 1&2
Sandman Overture 6 (will have to reread the entire series since I believe it has been over a year since the first issue came out and I have no recollection of much of it)
Astro City 27
Cap White 1
Guardians of Knowhere 4
Inhumans 5
Old Man Logan 4
ASM Renew 5 (still need 4)
SW8 Tusken Raider variant
SW9 both reg cover & Death Squad Commander variant
Vader 9
Shattered Empire 1

Looks like I missed Lando 4, so that means a trip to store B at some point to track down these missing issues.

Batman Annual #4 - Riddler, Mr Freeze and Clayface attack Bruce at home after Wayne Manor is no longer the new Arkham and given back to Bruce (WTF?) because he funded Batman. Lame.

The Cavalry #1 - Subpar one-shot about Melinda May. I missed the Nick Fury and Agent Carter ones, but the Quake and Mockinbird ones were much better.

DC Comics: Bombshells #1-2 - It's a big gimmick, but I dig those WWII-era styles.

Hank Johnson, Agent of HYDRA #1 - Hank Johnson is your run of the mill Hydra thug in green and yellow suit. This is his story, balancing his work and home life. MODOK sings Amazing Grace at a funeral. Hilarious.

S.H.I.E.L.D. #10 - Fitz has to recruit Howard the Duck to save reality. They get help from other dimension superhero versions of Howard.

Lando #4 - Missed it a few weeks back.

From 2 weeks ago. 8 books. 4 SW! One Final Issue.

Capt Marvel & Carol Corps 4. SW! I hadn't picked up the other 3 issues. Carol and her squad of fighter pilot buddies fight some Thors so they can go up into space and die. Or something.

Deadpool vs Thanos 2. Didn't read it yet.

1872 3. SW! Black Widow is pissed Sheriff Steve was killed and goes after Fisk with Red Wolf's help.

GIJoe ARAH 218. Another classic dogfight issue. This time between a Strato-Viper in a Night Raven and Ghost Rider(yeah, I said the name. Take that Marvel!) in his X-19.

Runaways 4. SW! Didn't read the other 3 issues. But apparently the Runaways successfully run away from Val Richards and her evil high school of doom.

Fury Oneshot. Another SHIELD 50th Anniversary issue. Nick Fury chases Hate Monger back in time to 1965 and teams up with his dad to stop the assassination of a little black kid in Hawaii. Pretty cool.

Transformers Windblade 7. Final Issue. Elita-1 and her colony of TFs join Starscream's council. Series is getting rebranded next year as Transformers:Til All Are One and becoming more of an ensemble book since that's what it's been from the start anyway.

Weirdworld 4. SW! Didn't get the first 3 issues so no clue what's going on.

All in all, a pretty dull week.

Another slow week with 8 books. And it could've been whittled down to 4. Only 2 SW this week.

Capt America: White 2. Cap loses his Shield and almost drowns and he's sad for a but. Then Namor brings his Shield back from the ocean floor and everything's okay.

Ghost Racers 4. SW! The Ghost Riders all realize they have badass demonic powers and don't have to put up with this racing shit and beat up Arcade and Zadkiel. Stupid series.

Inferno 5. SW! Didn't read it yet.

Miracleman 2. Still in it's bag. Didn't read it.

SHIELD 10. Fitz recruits Howard the Duck to save all reality.

Calvary Oneshot. Another SHIELD 50th Anniversary issue. Melinda May is training a bunch of recruits and cyborg dogs attack. Weak.

Transformers 45. Blackrock launches his virus against the TFs.

Transformers MTMTE 45. This issue was hilarious, following the Scavengers. But I was lost because I can't remember what's happened since the last time we saw them and what's going on with Grimlock. The last page was awesome though.

Marvel's site made it appear as though many of the "new" post sw books were starting this week. I haven't been in yet, but I'm sure a few #1's will be sold out by the time I do tomorrow after work. Reeeeally not sure how much chasing I'm going to want to do - since we don't even know what the fuck happens at the end of the story setting all of these series up.

$88 for me today, meaning that's over $150 total in 2 weeks. I can't afford that moving forward - fuck I've NEVER been able to afford that. This was an expensive god damned week in comics - maybe the most expensive ever.

Lando 5
SW 10 regular & Jawa variant
Vader 10
Shattered Empire 2

SW 6
Infinity Gauntlet 4

Miracleman 3 - they are NOT wasting any fucking time with this, are they? Is that like 3 weeks in a row?

Point One 1
Avengers 0
Dr Strange 1
Iron Man 1
ASM 1
Contest of Champions 1
