Ponyo: If you've got kids, take them to see this. If not, see it yourself. This movie was a masterpiece. I'd say it's a fucking masterpiece, but use of profanity seems wrong in discussing such a beautiful, innocent, sweet film.

The Green Mile: Been a few years since I saw this last, and I'd forgotten what a masterpiece it is, and the emotional punch it packs. If you've not seen it, it's very much worth all three hours or so.

Re: What have you watched lately?
Saw part of Embrace of the Vampire last night. Despite its reputation, I found it sorta tame. Granted, I wasn't expecting full-on porn, but there wasn't an awful lot of nudity as compared to the shitty plot, and the entire "lesbian vampire" description it's gotten was barely deserved. Alyssa Milano does look every bit as hot nekkid as she does clothed, though.
Also saw part of Showgirls. I always wondered why this wasn't more popular; it's an attractive woman naked for most of the movie. Now I know. Something about it, it seems remarkably sterile. Oh, sure, it's cool at first, and at a few scattered intervals, but it wears off fast. There's no story or acting to speak of, and it doesn't cross into real porno, either, so it's just sort of a mess. Still, worth watching until the "Hey! A roomful of boobs!!" effect wears off.

Saw a couple Adam Sandler movies yesterday (only because we're getting the Starz channels for free this weekend). Don't mess with the Zohan and Bedtime Stories. Zohan had a couple funny parts, but was kind of dumb overall. Bedtime Stories was ok. It sort of had a Billy Madison vibe to it.

No it wasn't.Ran wrote:Just watched Boondock Saints. Pretty good movie.
That was another one of those movies that people online jerk off to and overhype the fuck out of it, when it's really a B movie at best (and that is being extremely generous). See also: Equilibrium.

I hadn't heard a lot of hype about it, but I knew Bob Marley was in it. Since the only thing I really knew about it was that a stand-up comedian had a part in it, I was watching it as a comedy instead of an action flick. The ending was kind of cheesy.

I actually enjoyed Equilibrium but it wouldn't climb into any of my top 25 or even 50 lists of greatest movies.
The people that hype these movies are also the people that "liked Korn before they became big".
Sweet berry wine!

Boondock Saints was crap. I watched it after I heard all the hype and was like "That was it?"
I went and saw Despicable Me with the kids. Good stuff. I want little Minion action figures now.

I've had The Aviator for quite a while but still haven't watched it.vynsane wrote:watched PJ's King Kong and The Aviator while i worked today
Same with the Extended version of King Kong - as much as I like the theatrical version of the flick, finding 3 1/2 hours to devote to it will take some effort.
You sick fuck! I know there are some freaky fetishes out there, but that is downright nasty.vynsane wrote: on a period flick kick, i guess.
Huh?
Oh!
Nevermind. I totally took that the wrong way.

I just watched Inception.
What a gloriously awesome mindfuck of a film.
The succession of 'kicks' at the end meant four times the nail-biting suspense. And the ambiguous ending leaves plenty of room for debate.
Seriously, go see this right away. Why wonderful films like this don't earn $600 million and shit like Avatar does is beyond me.

Re: What have you watched lately?
Just pulled up (so to speak) TMNT.
Why is it that so many awesome movies bomb? Oh yeah, because people are fucking idiots.
In a perfect world, we'd be watching the fifth or sixth Ninja Turtles movie, with the same cast and crew as TMNT. And X-Men 4, directed by Brian Singer and featuring the return of Apocalypse, would still be on in theaters, and teasing how Jean will come back to life in the next movie. Oh, and Speed Racer 2, which would focus on Snake Oiler's quest for vengeance with his new Car Acrobatic Team, would be in the works for a summer 2011 release.

I've been hankering to watch the LOTR Trilogy yet again. It's been a decade since they filmed it.

Re: What have you watched lately?
Forgot to mention it, but I saw Singin' in the Rain for the first time a few days ago.
And it kicked a million times more ass than I'd expected. Aside from one insanely long dance sequence in the middle that's tangential to the plot, it's a four-stat, as well as frickin' hilarious, movie.
