I’ve kept my want/need list on my phone for the past several years, using an app called iDo Notebook. Well, yesterday I went to a dealer show and opened up the app, only to receive a message saying the developer hasn’t updated the software for the app and iOs can’t open the app. I researched it online, and the guy basically fucked off a couple years ago and the app isn’t even available anymore. So my list of THOUSANDS of books I’m looking for is now trapped in my phone. Unusable. FML.

So, I kinda half assed my way thru the guy’s boxes at the dealer show and came home with 101 books for $40. I know I got some duplicates, but I’m pretty sure I found a couple things I didn’t have. But I have no way to actually verify either way, because my list is “gone”

X-Men Rarities. Prestige oneshot from 1995.
X-Men Visionaries. A small TPB collecting random issues by the Kubert brothers.
Amazing Spidey 2007 FCBD issue. Already had this, maybe even a couple. But its the first appearance of Mr Negative and its worth more than the 40 cents I paid for it.
And a few Nu52 books, including 17 of the Zero issues. Some of these are duplicates, but I know a needed a few of them, so I just grabbed them all.

I maybe found a solution to get the data off the app once I’ve backed it up on a laptop. But I’m old and technology confuses me, so I’m gonna have to get my kids to walk through it with me.

If you get it back, you could start a simple Google site and put your list there, so it'll be handy as long as you have an internet connection.
I did that for my collection and a book series I collect.

Or make a word document and put it in dropbox/Google docs.

First off, my daughter helped me recover my want list. She backed up my iphone’s data on her laptop, then did some kind of data recovery. Then reformatted the something into a table or something and e-mailed me that file so i could cut and paste the lists into a new notepad on my phone. A minor drawback is that the random strings of numbers(which are issue numbers) are seen in some cases as a phone number, so my phone automatically converts it to a phone link when I try clicking on a specific issue to remove it, it asks if I want to call that “number”(which i dont) but other than that, I have my list back and I’m not blindly buying shit I already have. Yay!

Second, comic show at the local mall today. Vendors were set up in the promenade all up and down the mall. Lots of toys, and artwork, and posters, and people selling their crafts. And comics. I hit up five different tables over a couple hours. Spent less than $100 and only came away with 66 books, but I finished several runs, or came close to it, that I’m happy with. Here’s what I got.

First table, $5 each, but if you buy enough, the price went down to 30 for $30. I found 35 books for $35.

Dark Tower:Evil Ground 2. Finished the mini.
Dark Tower Drawing of the Three:Prisoner 5. Finished the mini.
Fairest 32. Just need 31 and 33 from this Fables spinoff.
Fatale 19. According to my list, finished the series.
Fight Club 2 1, 5, and 7. Just need issue 8.
Northlanders 31, 32, 36, 39, 42-47, 50. FINISHED this anthology series about Vikings from Brian Wood. Very happy about this one.
Old Man Hawkeye 4.
Penance 5. Finished this mini. Remember when Speedball went all dark and edgy after Civil War?
Some Planetary oneshots I already had.
Scalped 50, 51. FINISHED the series. Very VERY happy about this one. Highlight of the day for me.
Spirits of Vengeance 2, 5. Finished the mini from a couple years ago.

Aquaman Future’s End onehsot. Found the lenticular cover.
Batman 37, Annual 2. Just need the pricey 1-3, 5, 7, and 8 and I have the full Nu52 run of Batman.

Table 2had buy one, get one for a $1. One of the bags had two books in it, the guy said it counted as one book. So I got 3 for $1.

Table 3 had 1 for $5 or 3 for $5. Uhmm, what? Lol okay.

Cable 157, 159. Just need 153 and I have a compete run of Cable.
Marvel Tales:Fantastic Four. One of those $8 reprint books.

Table 4 had $2 books and some more expensive stuff, but the one $4 book I found, he only charged me $2 for. So 10 books for $20

Boys 37, 38, 40, 51, 53, 70. Just need issue 67 and my Boys run is complete! Except for the spinoff minis. Missing some Herogasm and…
Highland Laddie 5. Still need issue 2.
Action Comics 973. My Action run is complete all the way back to issue 543, which is from 1983 onwards.
Swamp Thing 1. Just need issue 38 from the Nu52 run.
Justice League:Darkseid War Special.

Dead Man Logan 2-7. Follow up to Old Man Logan. Still need a few of the last half of the series, but not sure which ones.

Comic show across the river at the Mall this weekend. Went over there with $300 in my pocket, but only spent $53. Came home with 42 books.

2nd table I went to had $1 books where I found the majority of today’s booty. 28 books, and the guy rounded down to $25.

Catwoman 51. The 90s series. Finally finished this run. I had a copy already, but I wasn’t happy with the condition. This copy satisfies me enough that the series is FINISHED.

The highlight was probably the Gotham Central issues just because they’ve eluded me for awhile. Putting a dent in those GL series was nice too.
Not sure when the next big show is, however I’m GOING TO DISNEYWORLD at the beginning of the year! And there’s probably some comic shops in Orlando I can hit up while I’m down there.

First shop, Mike’s Comics. Bought both masked and unmasked variant covers for the new Batgirls series and Deadpool 12 from Duggan’s first run. It was one of the two issues I was missing. Also found a $7.99 Franklin Richards issue in a $1 box. 4 books.

Second shop, God’s and Monsters. Found three Dark Tower issues and one of the two Patsy Walker AKA Hellcat! issues I’m missing. 4 books.

Third and final shop, Coliseum of Comics.

When I was at that show last weekend, I saw the new She-Hulk #1 and I thought ‘that doesn’t look familiar, but I must’ve bought it and it’s sitting at home in one of my many unread stacks.’ Got home, looked. I did NOT have it. Shit. I wonder why my guy didn’t order any. So this week, issue 2 was supposed to be here. It wasn’t. I said something to Larry about it not coming in. He looked at me perplexed and said everything on the inventory was here. So he looked on some app that shows all the books that were shipping from Marvel this week, and he’s missing QUITE A FEW. He said he’d look into it.

Anyway, I’m playing hooky from work today taking a mental well being day and decided to go to another comic shop in the town next to ours. I found the books I was missing from this week and noticed a Carnage oneshot. The guy there said it came out last week or the week before. So when I got home I went through the last few weeks of solicited Marvel books and I’m missing like TWENTY books that Penguin didn’t send my guy and I’m assuming they’re not even on his manifest or whatever as ‘zeros’ or ‘unshipped’ or whatever because he just checks his amounts against what he’s got on his shipping manifest. Holy shit! Amazing Spidey 90, Miles Morales 35, Ghost Rider 1, etc.

But why I’m posting this story in here is because I also went thru the other shop’s $1 boxes and found 70 books. Here’s what I got.

Batman The Dark Knight 1. Nu52. The corner was a little bent. But now I only need issue 14.
Detective 950, 955, 964, 966, 967, 970, 972. Now I’m like 10 issues away from filling in the Nu52/Rebirth gap in my ‘Tec run and having a full run all the way back to issue 572.
Black Bolt 6. Just need 3 and 4.
Cyborg 6. 4 more issues to go.
Fight Club2 8. Finished the series.
Flash. 8 issues of Flash. I thought they were Rebirth issues and they were Nu52, so I only filled in one or two gaps and have a bunch of doubles now. Ugh.
Gen13:A Christmas Caper oneshot.
Ghost 22, 24, 36. Finished the ‘95 series.
Ghost 2-4, 8, 10-14, 19, 20. Only six more to go from the ‘98 run.
Green Lanterns 15, 18, 47, 50, 51, 55, 57. I think I have three issues left, but I’m trying to differentiate between the regular and variant covers and sometimes my own system confuses me.
Hal Jordan/GLC 36, 44, 48. Same here. Might have six issues to go. I have a box sorting planned in the next few weeks(moving books from lid boxes into drawer boxes and condensing/alphabetizing as I go) so I’ll know once I get the entire run together.

Superman/Batman Generations2 1. John Byrne series that takes place in ‘real time’ so the characters age from the 30’s to the present. Still need issue 2.

FCBD is back after a two year hiatus(I don’t count last year’s unhyped late August attempt). The main LCS I’d been going to for the past several years closed a couple years ago. They’d let you take one of everything and I got spoiled. I don’t even think I’d read everything I grabbed, but I’d leave with like 30-40 free issues(and a ton of stuff I purchased also) This year, I went to four different shops and each shop had a limit of 3-5 books you could grab. Second store I found an issue of Joker:Puzzle Box I was missing, Marvel Voices:Pride oneshot from last year, and the 40th Anniversary of the GIJoe Silent Issue where they had different artists redo one page each. Pretty sweet.

Third store I got TF:Best of Megatron, and GIJoe:Yo Joe oneshot. also a few books from the $1 box;

And at the last moment I threw Batman 1 on the pile. It was marked $40. But when I got rung up, the guy said my total was $34. Everything was half off! I can do all sorts of mental gymnastics(like if I paid full price for the TF and GIJoe books, etc) but I am very pleased with knocking that off my list. Finding 2 and 3 will be much more doable now. Hooray!

Last shop I got some Wonder Woman variant covers and the Jim Lee cover of Bat/Cat 11. I also bought a “value” mystery box of comics. It was $100 worth of comics for $30. I knew I would probably be getting doubles of stuff, but I like the owner and wanted to throw him some business. It ended up being a bunch of TPBs of mostly books I already had the floppies of, and also Gunfighter Spawn 1, and Scorched 1. Yeah, technically it was $100 worth of stuff as advertised, but it was underwhelming. Oh well.

Highlights were definitely getting Batman Nu52 1 and a distant second was finishing the Gotham Central ongoing. An even more distant third was finishing several other series and wiping them off my want list permanently. Finding that GIJoe Silent Issue book was pretty sweet also. Didn’t know that existed.
