Re: Football
Suck it, Grimlock.
I'd like to congratulate the Detroit Lions on breaking an NFL record today.
I'm glad this season is over. After the good start, this had to be one of the most disappointing seasons I've been through as a Bills fan. It was worse than going 4-12.

Re: Football
So who is everyone pulling for/picking this weekend?
I want Tenn to beat Baltimore, Arizona to beat Carolina, Philadelphia to beat the Giants, and since I am picking mostly upsets (and don't really give a damn about the game), I want San Diego to beat Pittsburgh.
So, with exception to Tenn/Baltimore, I am wanting all upsets, though I don't really care either way. And I wouldn't be surprised if I picked every game wrong.
I would like to see Tenn goto the Superbowl.

"Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery."

Re: Football
I want Arizona to win. I realize that it's NEVER gonna happen but it'd be nice to see a totally out of the blue team win it all.
Sweet berry wine!
Re: Football
Well I was glad to see Arizona and Philly win, was disappointed in Tennessee's loss. Couldn't care less about Pittsburgh but wasn't surprised to see them win at all.
So who ever wins between the Cards and Eagles, I want to go on and win the Super Bowl. I guess I am pulling for Arizona, since they have never won one, but Philly would be alright too. NO Ravens or Steelers, thats for sure!
BTW - Were you happy to see Detroit go 0-16 Sleazer? Or is that too close to home?

Re: Football
Terrell Owens signed with the Buffalo Bills today. As a Bills' fan, I'm still not exactly sure what to think. It is only a 1 year deal. He's probably the first superstar the Bills' have had since the Super Bowl years. This is either going to be really good or really bad. The Bills haven't made the playoffs in about 10 years. I don't suppose TO can make things much worse.

Re: Football
Okay, I don't want this to degenerate into a free-for-all, but what are your thoughts on Michael Vick? I'm willing to respect any differing opinion, provided you don't do like a few folks I know who went right for the race card and said I was being racist because I'm white and he's black, because that's just ignorant as hell.
I can respect that, under the law as it existed when he was tried, he has served his time and is a free man. I've got a real problem with him going back to a position where he's a hero to a lot of kids.
This isn't a guy who got drunk and killed someone. Although the outcome of that situation (actually, both of them) is worse, it didn't involve premeditation. No one drinks a few beers, hops in their car, and says, "Man, I hope I kill someone tonight!" And no one gets drunk and wakes up running a dogfighting ring, either. This is a history of sociopathic behavior spanning years.
Perhaps he has truly seen the error of his ways and turned a new leaf. Great. Get a job. His crime involved a serious mental issue and was widely publicized. He should not be put back on a pedestal. Ever. At most, he should speak to kids and say, "I was one of the best quarterbacks in the league. But I fucked up. Don't do what I did." As it is, the message is, "Hey, kids, don't get caught, or you might lose your cushy job for two years." Getting a second chance at life doesn't mean he has to be portrayed as a hero and make bazillions again. That's fucked up.

Re: Football
Glad he didn't sign with my team. I didn't think he was a good QB before he went to jail. He served his time for the crime and the commissioner vaguely outlined his punishment. I don't care if he ever sees a football field again. The Eagles are taking the gamble on the PR hit. Philly fans threw batteries at Santa during a game, so they will probably accept Vick. Personally, I think the whole thing is going to backfire on them. McNabb is going to get hurt (again) and they will be forced to play Vick more than they intend to.
Is KH going to start the fantasy football league?

Re: Football
'Nark, I'm not a Vick supporter and I am utterly repulsed by what he did and was involved with...but I don't have a problem with him getting another chance. 2 and a half seasons out of the league with a prison sentence involved is punishment, maybe not enough punishment but it's what he got. Basically, I think he's a POS so I have no sympathy for him but I am ok with him getting another shot at the league.
On another front, there's a part of me that loves a train wreck, so I can't wait to see what happens this season.

I missed this post the first time around. I absolutely LOVED it !!! Also loved the fact that GB was the team to put them in the record books, so I'm proud to call this town home.UKWildcat wrote:BTW - Were you happy to see Detroit go 0-16 Sleazer? Or is that too close to home?

Re: Football
I've decided that I can no longer wear my Eagles t-shirt in public anymore. It is now relegated to sleepwear.
They were selling t-shirts here in Michigan that said:
"2008 Detroit Lions
Perfect Season
4-0
0-16"

Re: Football
anarky, i think he should be able to play. he should get his full salary with a caveat: he has to be naked on the field and covered with raw meat. oh, and the pit bulls he "trained" are loose on the field at all times. either that, or he should get buttraped by a guy in a dog costume every time he successfully completes a play. or unsuccessfully. i just think a guy in a big fucking goofy dog costume should fuck him regularly on the field. kind of like he fucked his dogs. because you know the sick fucker fucked his fucking dogs.

Re: Football
Wow. Nobody been in this topic since 2009?
I started rooting for the Lions after they went 0-16 and I found out they're the only team (not counting the new expansion teams Texans and Browns) that has never made it to the SuperBowl. That's underdog right there. Plus, they have a cool color scheme and logo.
Anyway, they're 4 and 0 so far. The only team besides the SuperBowl champs the Packers to be undefeated this season. (the last time the Packers lost? Final regular season game last year. To the Lions.)

Re: Football
The Lions will probably find a way to fuck it up. It would be cool if they didn't, but history tells us they always do.
I'm already sick of the bandwagoners around here. The Lions have always had a dedicated following, but I'm seeing soccer moms wearing Lions gear already.
I like football, but I I don't follow it super close, so I have no real investment in the Lions. I guess you'd say I've been a fan because I live in Michigan and have had no choice but to follow them.
Going back to last (regular) season, the Lions are currently 8-0.
The last time they won the championship it was the year before the Super Bowl.
