What have you watched lately?

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

After some of your earlier comments, I was afraid you didn't like it and I'd have to kill you.

Were you aware of the "I am a leaf on the wind..." part before seeing Serenity?

I heard it in Serenity but don't remember it in Firefly. Like I said I'd like to go back through and see it again.

"I'm a leaf on the wind..." wasn't in Firefly, just Serenity. I wasn't sure if you were aware what happened right after that before watching Serenity.

And when you rewatch Firefly, keep an eye open for the 12 inch Han Solo in Carbonite - he's in almost every episode.

Seriously?! That's all the more reason to watch it again! Have you spotted any of them?

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. Not exactly a classic, but it was a lot better than I expected. It would've been the highest-grossing film of all time if the previews had just been a black screen, and then the following appeared: "Mr. T. Neil Patrick Harris. Bruce Campbell. IN THE SAME FUCKING MOVIE!"

he Lego movie a ton of times and other stuff has been viewed too but was utter crap. Saw some of Captain America the first Avenger again. The beginning of that with scrawny Chris Evans freaks me out. I know it's CG compositing but it's creepy odd. They did a pretty good job but it's just not quite right and - distracting.

Having had a copy of the Lego movie for a while and freeze framing through it I'm awe struck at the level of detailing in every frame. Scenes that fly by in the blink of an eye like the motorcycle chase are so rich in detail even though viewing at regular speed you'd never see the stuff. That's awesome. At various points there are fingerprints on the minifigure torsos. A detail you won't see viewing real time. That's super awesome. I spotted a continuity error that had to be deliberate. At one point in the Old West sequence Wildstyle's horse goes from black to brown to black again as the camera angle shifts about. They've littered this movie with things to find. And that's on top of one of the best rites of passage movies ever made. My inner eight year old is constantly experiencing pre-puberty boners over this movie. Superflipflopflyinawesomesauce!
I have never read any of your posts, but from what I can learn I should say that for people who like the kind of posts you deliver, they are just the kind of posts such people like.

I'm going to have to look for that stuff when we buy it. We saw it in 3D in the theater (kid's choice, not mine). I found the 3D distracting, so I'm sure I missed a bunch of details.

Ender's Game: While I don't remember much about the book, it seems like they cut a lot of his training out. It was an okay movie.

Non-Stop – The (most?) recent entry in the Liam Neeson punching people genre. Nothing too amazing or surprising, but it was a solidly entertaining action flick. Some of the lines and acting were pretty cheesy but not too egregious.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Finally got around to watching The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug this weekend. Overall, I liked it, but most of Legolas' fighting was pretty cheesy.

The Purge - Reminded me a lot of The Strangers. Decent movie and I watched it so I could watch the second one.

I liked the idea of the film, but I thought the execution of the idea fell short of its potential.
I have hopes for the sequel though.

Here's what I've watched recently.

Edge of Tomorrow. Decent sci-fi flick based on a Japanese comic/novel. As you've probably heard, it's Groundhog's Day mashed with The Longest Day and District 9 where Tom Cruise relives the same invasion day over and over until he can kill the aliens. Sort of like when you're playing a video game and keep dying until you get to the next level. I enjoyed it.

Fault in Our Stars. Watched this for work. Everybody else was balling at the end. I wasn't. Bring your hankies. People die of cancer at the end. Very sad. Okay.

How to Train Your Dragon I and II. I watched the second one first and it was decent, but I'd never seen the first one, so a guy at work lent me his BluRay an i watched it with my kids, then went and watched the sequel again. I deemed them both excellent. Great franchise.

22 Jump Street. Hilarious sequel from the guys who directed The Lego Movie. So many funny on jokes you'll need to watch it more than once. The Benjamin Hill School of Film Editing gag was only one of many many jokes that cracked me up. The stuff about the Secret Service was another. And the End Credits sequence is probably the greatest end credits sequence ever. Brilliant.

Veronica Mars. Since it never came to theatres around here, I bought the BluRay/DVD to support the film. Excellent follow up to the series. It makes me want more movies though. Can we get a sequel Rob Thomas? Please?

Transformers Age of Excrement. Dear God, Michael Bay what hath thou wrought? I hope your taint and a running chainsaw have a meeting soon.

Ever After. Yes, fuck you, it's a great movie. The wedding is one of my favorite scenes from any movie.

Is that the one with Drew Barrymore and proto-Wolverine?
