Proxy Servers, how the FUCK

do they work?? I MUST get access to the adult swim site to watch videos but it's blocked from Canada, I imagine that if I was using a proxy from somewhere in the US I could actually watch shit like Daily Show and Metalocalypse without issue but as it is I get the "sorry international buddy" message 
Any hints/tips/suggestions??
I have tried a few but I get a "sorry this site requires" either javascript or flash or whatever- is there a stable one that will work??
I am not posting this in a secret section since I am totally not doing anything nefarious with it, I just wanna watch me some fuckin cartoons
