Massive IDW Crossover: WTF?

Only place I've seen this reported is on His Stank, but it appears there will be a massive crossover of some sort between "Transformers, GI Joe, Star Trek, GHostbusters, and CVO (and potentially others) that will be in continuity and will have lasting effects within each series."

WTF?

I have no idea what CVO is, but the others listed sound like, well, really incredibly bad idea.

What else does IDW license? About fucking everything Dark Horse doesn't have. Will this tie into Speed Racer and True Blood as well?

Really, I can think of absolutely nothing that could affect a realistic GIJoe book and a Ghostbusters or Star Trek title as well. Very, very weird.

They must be trying to out suck Dark Horses' Star Wars crossover that spanned several thousand years.

Yeah, and the first thing to come to mind here was, "And Vector sounded like a shitty idea."

I've seen several people speculating it may be a common threat of some sort. But what could threaten GIJoe, the Ghostbusters, the crew of Star Trek, Dr Who, and Speed Racer, and not completely undermine at least two of the titles entirely?

Earth was just devastated in Transformers (though even the current creative team seems to ignore that--I can't buy that everything is "business as usual" just a year after half the earth is destroyed by the giant robots who overrun the entire planet). No other title in the present day can be set in that universe.

I have faith in IDW up to a point. This idea is way past that. I've already more or less dropped Transformers, and will give Joe a chance up to the point it jumps the shark (since the writing teams on that series are much stronger). But I dropped both titles when Devil's Due and Dreamwave lost it (Dreamwave much sooner than Devil's Due), and will do it again.

Maybe they'll go with some sort of multi-dimensional threat, so no series has to cross-over and coexist with another.

Even entering the idea of different dimensions when they're playing GIJoe completely straight is a mistake, methinks.

That said, Cobra is currently struggling with the MASS Device, which is far less foolproof and perfected than in the cartoon, so that could cause something crazy like that to happen.

Hmmm.... Now that you mentioned that, Transformers has space bridges, Star Trek has all sorts of warp shit, and Ghostbusters has some sort of trans-dimensional something, so this actually might make a little sense. Could be funny (not "ha ha funny") if something comes through the MASS Device, kills some important but disposable Cobra, and that makes them stop using it altogether.

I'm only getting the Transformers and GIJoe two part crossovers. I was going to get the main book as well, but it didnt interest me, and I dont need it to et the 'gist' of whats happening.

So, uh, this fucking crossover killed Kup and Psyche-Out?

What the hell? Is Winston Zeddmore going to fucking die, too?

BTW, Rollo, since I believe you read it, did you catch that Raptor made his first IDW appearance in the crossover? He's probably dead as well, but may have survived.

And he's rather different from the original version.

Raptor shows up in GIJoe Infest2. But thats not why I came here.

I thought there was a topic about that stunt IDW pulled with the Godzilla covers. Where, if individual Comic Shops ordered enough copies of the first issue of Godzilla, they'd get exclusive covers were Godzilla's foot was specifically crushing their store.

Anyway, IDW has cooked up a new stunt for a record of different covers on their new Mars Attacks! comic.

55 Different Covers.

55.

Each cover is based on one of the cards in the original card set from the 60s. AND they're offering a set of ALL 55 COVERS in a collectors tin that resembles the original card box. Sweet fucking Miranda. Seriously?

Given the average print run on any given IDW comic (they're right around the 8,000 - 12,000 range) means any one of the 55 covers is gonna have like 200 or so copies in existence.

Discuss.

It'd cost more than $200 to get a full set, without taking into account the inevitable markup. Shit, that's insane.

If you replace "Svetonivs" with "aliens," guess what? You've proven that all surviving records of ancient Rome were written by an extraterrestrial intelligence.

Who knew Chris Ryall was so funny?

Sadly, no TF or GIJoe news. But the opening rant is pretty funny. Don't you think, Rob?

I think Ryall might've been one of the dudes from IDW I talked to at Comic-Con the year before Infiltration came out. I don't even think Furman had been announced yet. It was the year they were going to have free TF posters and severely underestimated the demand and ran out the first day. They were a pretty small operation, and, IIRC, TF was to be their first licensed comic. I remember telling them, jokingly, that I dropped Dreamwave's TF line when they made Grimlock (even temporarily) a Decepticon, then saying I was only half-joking because it was just entirely wrong. Whoever it was agreed with me, very vocally. In any case, the two dudes were pretty cool.
