2600 (in the vein of Ran's "NES" thread)

Not nearly the same scope as Ran's thread (no ESB? ARRRGH!!!), but still really cool. Some of these games are still pretty impressive. And I'm finding some I used to find hard are a breeze now that I'm used to more sophisticated games, but others are still just as tough as ever.

Oh, and, after playing ET a bit on normal difficulty and remembering I always played it on the super-easy version with no "evil" humans, I must echo the sentiment that the game sucks. It's impossible to actually get the spaceship to arrive, because the goddamn scientist always walks onto the screen at the last second, and the ship won't land if anyone else is around.

There is no link to Yar's Revenge on this site, so I'm going to have to rate it as "shitty".

EDITED: I take it back - Yar's Revenge is on there. I change my rating to "not shitty".

Speaking of classic gaming. A new night club opened up downtown. It is full of old arcade machines. You can also rent a couch by the hour and play whatever home game system you want. It is supposed to be pretty cool, but I bet those old games get boring after a while.

I'm not sure when the paradigm shift happened - I'm guessing at the advent of the NES - but games that are not "finishable" kinda went out of style. That being said, I'd still head down there at least once to pop a few quarters into arcade machines for old-times sake - you can't beat the rush of standing by for Defender or Stargate as the game fires up, making all those awesome noises. :D

12115 on Space Invaders, rolled the scoreboard over at 10k. Suck it.
