sorry for the delay, but it appears the upgrade to 3.1.12 of the phpBB platform was a success. please let me know if you encounter any oddities.

Is there a way to switch between "smartphone" and "classic desktop" style?

Or to change the color scheme? I'd switched to "subsilver" or whatever before because the blue is a bit tough to see at times.

I do like it overall, just the light blue is tough to see and I've never understood why it's the default over so much of the web.

No, the switching is handled by the site based on screen size. Honestly the responsive design was my main impetus for upgrading. I was always annoyed by the way it rendered on my phone. This is the first version that even attempts to serve a decent mobile design.

The only thing that I find lacking is the "jump to new post" link being removed at small screen sizes. I'll have to log a ticket with them to reinstate it.

There is a subsilver theme, but it, too, has been rewritten as responsive, I believe. You should be able to specify what template you want in the user control panel. I'm surprised it didn't transfer those preferences in the upgrade, frankly.

I've just gone looking for the subsilver theme and it appears it's not installed. I'll look around for a new version of it, though I've been contemplating switching to something completely different. I'll have to see what's available for phpBB 3.1.x once their servers are back online. Apparently they suffered a severe targeted attack.

I liked being able to see who the most recent poster in a topic was without having to click on the topic and scroll down.
Is there a way to reinstate that at least?


Also, post counts went away. That's minor though.

The poster info on the right throws me off.

That's what I meant by the "jump to last post" link. I think it's silly that it was removed from the mobile view

That's the way the default theme has been for years, so I didn't even register a change there. I like it better on the right, personally. I'm here to read what you have to say. Having the posts on the left gets me there faster. I am considering designing my own theme and making variants for right and left aligned posts.

It's still shitty.

Oh, and in case I need to enlighten you fucks with my facts & always-right opinions, I'd like to use the "view recent posts" or "new posts" or whatever it was called button. I can't find it - is it gone?

Did the upgrade do anything to prevent spambots?

There's a little drop down menu in the upper left hand corner.
